15,295 citizens of Georgia applied for asylum to the European Union
Asylum requests in the EU will decrease by 19% annually in 2025, according to the 2025 report of the European Union Asylum Agency (EUAA).
As the document explains, the decrease was mainly due to a decrease in applications from citizens of Syria, Bangladesh and Turkey.
Last year, EU countries received a total of 822,000 asylum applications. In the reporting period, Afghanistan was the leader in asylum requests (over 117,000 applications). 20% of asylum requests came from Germany, 19% from France, 17% from Spain, 16% from Italy, and 7% from Greece.
In 2025, 15,295 applications for asylum were registered by Georgian citizens in EU countries, which is slightly less than in 2024. In particular, 15,103 applications for asylum were registered during this period.
According to EU data, 11,577 applications received by Georgian citizens are still under consideration, 1 026 applicants withdrew the request themselves.
Most of the applications submitted last year, 12,788, were initial applications. The top three countries, where Georgian citizens requested asylum most often, look like this: France, Italy and Germany.
